When barley straw bales are placed in water, they begin to decompose. As Barley Straw breaks down, natural chemicals are released that help clean & clear the water. The natural compounds released from Barley Straw into the water, help maintain it’s clarity and balance the water’s pH level. It is these natural compounds that are believed to be the factor which give barley straw its natural ability to keep water clear.
Aquatic Barley Straw Extract is derived from distilled aquatic barley straw bales. Because it is highly concentrated, it is a quicker to act than Aquatic Barley Straw Bales.
Some of the limitations of using barley straw bales is that they need to be correctly placed in the water body, loosely bundled and require adequate circulation in a well oxygenated water body. With Aquatic Barley Straw Extract it is easily dispersed through the water on application, thus acting quicker.
Aquatic Barley Straw Extract is made from all natural, Australian grown barley and is a 100% Australian product which is grown, harvested, processed and distributed by Australian owned and operated companies.
It’s a highly concentrated extract which can be delivered quickly and easily keep water clear in lakes, dams, ponds, fountains, water features and fish tanks.

Aquatic Barley Straw Extract is best applied before green water appears. It’s ideal for use immediately after a pond, fountain, water feature or fish tank refill or in lakes, dams, ponds and garden water tanks, prior to green, slimy or dirty looking water first appearing.
Directions:
Determine the volume of water to be treated, tip the container upside-down to gently mix, measure the required amount of product and pour directly into the water body to be treated.
Application Rates:
For enclose garden water tanks: Apply 10mL of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 100L of water or part thereof and re-apply monthly at a maintenance dosage of 7.5mL per 100L of water or part thereof.
For small indoor fish tanks and water features, less than 2,000L: Apply an initial dosage of 10mL of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 100L of water or part thereof and apply weekly at a maintenance dosage of 7.5ml per 100L water or part thereof.
For small outdoor ponds, fountains or water feature, less than 2,000L: Apply an initial dosage of 20mL of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 100L water or part thereof and apply weekly at a maintenance dosage of 15mL per 100L water or part thereof.
For larger ponds and dams, greater than 2,000L but less than 10,000L: Apply an initial dosage of 60mL of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 2,000L water or part thereof and apply weekly at a maintenance dosage of 30mL per 2,000L water or part thereof.
For larger ponds and dams, greater than 10,000L: Apply an initial dosage of 20L of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 1ML of water or part thereof and apply fortnightly to monthly at a maintenance dosage of 10L per 1ML of water or part thereof, from early spring, through summer.
